An embedded system for Bone Density measurement Analysis (BDAS) for the diagnosis and monitoring of the healing of fractures in the healthcare and homecare environment. The solution will be cost-effective, portable, wireless and easy to use and monitor and can be personalized and involves no health hazard of frequent use. It will make the orthopedic healthcare accessible to everyone, both rural and urban, and as frequent as needed. Thereby the project will solve a major health problem in both countries in a social and economically sustainable way.

BDAS is a collaborative project between two universities (Uppsala University (S) and Amrita University (I)) and two SMEs (Hytton Technologies (S) and EHE Innovative Solutions (I)) and Akademeska University Hospital, Uppsala as the end user for clinical testing.

Orthopedic care for everyone, everywhere

The project consortium comprises of academic and industrial partners that are complementary in their expertise and contributions to the project. The partners from both Sweden and India are experts in their respective fields. The consortium aims to result in a high end and affordable IoT solution for orthopedic diagnostic and rehabilitation needs.

Scope and Objective

  • To develop an embedded system for Bone Density Measurement Analysis (BDAS) for the diagnosis and monitoring of the bone injury and healing in the healthcare and home care environment.
  • To make the orthopedic healthcare accessible to everyone, both rural and urban, and as frequent as needed.
  • An orthopedic solution that is cost-effective, portable, wireless, easy to use and monitor, can be personalized and involves no health hazard due to frequent use compared to the existing conventional equipments.
  • A monitoring system that facilitates early medical intervention such as surgery, drug, food supplements or right physiotherapy programs for rehabilitation of patients and thereby drastically reduce their trauma and further complications.
  • To provide a socially and economically sustainable solution that will contribute to the enhanced personal wellbeing by addressing a major health problem in the global society.
